Biography

Schlumper currently works as a Principal Research Engineer on programs related to Safety, Health, and Environmental compliance and management systems. Main responsibility is serving as Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Services and Manager of the Georgia Tech On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program. Director responsibilities include leading a group of occupational safety and health consultants and training providers to assist organizations with their safety and health compliance and management functions.

As part of this responsibility, he also works directly on delivery of project work such as conducting on-site safety consultation visits and safety-related training. Also serves as a Board Member for the Georgia Safety, Health, and Environmental Conference Board. Other internal responsibilities include or have included teaching academic courses (Professional Masters in Occupational Safety and Health, GT 1000, Freshman Orientation and CEE 4130 – Construction Safety and Health).

Previous responsibilities included being Branch Head of a group of researchers dedicated to research and outreach in the areas of general industry and construction occupational safety and environmental compliance. The primary function of this branch is to conduct research and assist industry in occupational safety and health and environmental compliance through on-site consultation and training. Past responsibilities also included representing the Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Program Office in the recent implementation of a Quality Management System for the Electronic Systems Laboratory which successfully achieved ISO 9001 Certification. Additionally, completed the Inclusive Leaders program at Georgia Tech.

Has served as a course director and instructor for a variety of safety and health courses since the earl 1990’s. Courses include the OSHA 7115 Lockout/Tagout, OSHA 2045 Machine Guarding, OSHA 7505 Incident Investigation, OSHA 7500 Introduction to Safety and Health Management, OSHA 7845 OSHA Recordkeeping and OSHA 511 General Industry. Has taught these courses for general public offerings as well as numerous contract offerings for specific groups.
