Applications are submitted via the Graduate Admissions website. You are required to upload supporting documents with your application. International students are required to submit official scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and proof of financial support for the first year of study.

Application Deadlines

The School of Building Construction reviews applications on a rolling basis between early and late deadlines; however, it is encouraged that full applications be completed by the early deadline, especially if the applicant is interested in being considered for limited GTA/GRA funding opportunities. 

Fall Admission:

  • Early Deadline on January 15
  • Late Deadline for International applicants on April 1
  • Late Deadline for U.S. Applicants on May 1

Spring Admission:

  • Early Deadline on July 15
  • Late Deadline for International applicants on September 1
  • Late Deadline for U.S. Applicants on October 1

 

Requirements and Materials for All Programs

The following materials are required for all degree programs:

  1. Application
  2. Application Fee
  3. You will be asked to provide the email contact information for 3 recommenders. Your recommenders will receive an automated email asking that they complete an online letter of recommendation for you.
  4. A copy of your transcript from each college attended since high school to be uploaded with your application (These may be unofficial copies. If admitted, you will be required to provide official copies).
  5. Official scores of GRE and IELTS or TOEFL, if applicable.

All supporting documentation except test scores are to be uploaded with your online application. If you have your paper TOEFL score report, you may upload them with your application, but you will also need to ask Educational Testing Service to send Georgia Tech your official electronic scores.

If you are a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and you wish to claim Georgia Residence for tuition purposes, you must complete the Application for Georgia Residence Status form (included with the on-line application). Please also be prepared to upload a copy of your passport and driver's license if you are a US citizen and your Permanent Resident card if applicable.

English Proficiency Requirements for International Students

Georgia Tech's accepted tests and minimum score requirement for graduate admission are listed below: 

IELTS

  • IELTS ≥ 7 (minimum band score for Reading, Listening, and Speaking is 6.5; minimum band score for Writing is 5.5)

TOEFL

  • TOEFL iBT ≥ 90 (each section must score 19 or higher)

Georgia Tech Language Institute English Proficiency Assessment 

  • Overall score of 3 is required to meet the admission requirements.
  • Applicants can sign up for the assessment here. The Language Institute will report the assessment results to Graduate Admissions within 2 business days from the day of the assessment.

Georgia Tech Language Institute's Intensive English Program
Applicants may also successfully complete the advanced level (700 Level) of the Georgia Tech Language Institute's Intensive English Program. The intensive English program is an 8-week program that is offered face to face five times a year.  

We recommend that you achieve acceptable scores prior to submitting your application. Scores must be no more than two years old on the day you are scheduled to begin your graduate studies. Failure to satisfy the English Language Proficiency requirement will impact our ability to review an application.

Bachelor's Degree Requirements
A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields from an accredited institution is required to be considered for admission.

  • Construction
  • Civil Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Architectural Engineering
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Facility Management

A bachelor's degree in another field with a minimum of two years experience in a related field is also acceptable.

GRE Requirements
For the MSBCFM, the GRE is the preferred application criteria, but is not required. 

Essay Requirement
Two essay questions are required and are included in your online application.

  • Explain your professional/personal post-baccalaureate experience in building construction.
  • Describe how your academic or professional background will support you as you pursue a master's degree.

Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required.

Bachelor's Degree Requirements
There are two routes to admission for MRED candidates.

1. A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields from an accredited institution with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. No work experience in the real estate development industry is required.

2. A bachelor's degree in the following fields from an accredited institution with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and a minimum of two years' experience in the real estate development industry with two letters of recommendation from real estate professionals specifying industry competence.

GRE/GMAT Requirements
The GRE is not required.

The minimum requirement is a score on the general test from the past five years in the 60th percentile or higher.

Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation from real estate professionals specifying industry competence.

Master's Degree Requirements
 A master's degree in one of the following fields from an accredited institution is required to be considered for admission.
