Biography:

Alex Moutaftchieva is a Lecturer in the School of Building Construction. She holds a bachelor's degree in Construction Science and Management from Clemson University and a master's degree in Building Construction and Facility Management from Georgia Tech. Alex spent ten years in operations for Turner Construction, specifically in project management and preconstruction. Her project experience spans from small renovations to multi-million-dollar new builds in hospitality, healthcare, higher education and commercial construction. Courses taught by Alex include Introduction to Construction Management, Plans and Estimates, Construction Cost Management, Project Management 1, Senior Capstone and Advanced Project Management, and she also coaches student competition teams. Alex draws on her industry experience to teach students the practical applications of construction management tools, emphasizing the benefits of comprehensive preconstruction services to ensure a successful project delivery. She is a member of the American Council for Construction Education and utilizes her industry experience and relationships to continuously improve construction management curriculum.

Teaching Interest:

Ms. Moutaftchieva’s teaching focuses on building construction fundamentals, preconstruction and construction project management controls.  Ms. Moutaftchieva’s teaching incorporates practical applications and best practices based on her industry experience. Ms. Moutaftchieva is focused on providing students with the knowledge and skills to lead the construction industry.

Research Interest:

Ms. Moutaftchieva came to Georgia Tech with ten years of construction industry experience. During her career, she worked for one of the nation’s largest general contracting firms in operations roles including preconstruction and project management. Ms. Moutaftchieva focuses on the benefits of comprehensive preconstruction efforts and the tools for cost and project management to deliver successful construction projects.
