Georgia Tech routed the Kennesaw State Owls with contributions from the College of Design on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Michelle Rinehart, interim dean for the College, acted as a guest coach for the surging Yellow Jackets. Rinehart’s leadership on the sideline proved as effective as in the dean’s suite.

Twelve students represented the School of Building Construction in the 45-17 victory. Tre Swilling and Devin Cochran, two students in the Master of Science in Building Construction and Facility Management (MSBCFM) program, served as two of the game's four captains. Brent Cimaglia, a student in the Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program, scored one field goal and six extra points as the team's starting place kicker. Kyric McGowan, also an MSBCFM student, caught two touchdowns.

"I was proud to see the same qualities that help these students succeed in the classroom translated onto the football field,"  said Rinehart. "Our students are truly student-athletes."

On the defensive side of the ball, Akelo Stone, a student in the reactivated Bachelor of Science in Building Construction (BSBC) program, set a new career best. He recorded three solo tackles, including two tackles for loss.

"Akelo Stone represented our Bachelor of Science in Building Construction program," Rinehart continued. "He's learning how to understand design processes from several points of view, how to use technology for analysis, and he excels at seeing the big picture."

"Those skills are critical for the modern construction industry, and obviously make for a great team player."

The Yellow Jackets face a top ten opponent in Clemson on the road next Saturday. Coach Rinehart won’t be there to construct the game plan, but she believes the team will continue to build on its success.
